Vincent Farrell is a Bitcoin enthusiast, privacy advocate, and self-hosting practitioner focused on helping everyday people take greater ownership of their digital lives.
His interest in sovereignty began with Bitcoin, but quickly expanded into a much broader question: how much of our personal technology, data, identity, and financial life do we actually control?
That question led him to Linux, self-hosting, private networking, hardware security, personal servers, password management, Bitcoin nodes, and the growing world of tools designed to reduce dependence on centralized systems.

What began as an interest in Bitcoin eventually became a hands-on effort to understand the technology behind digital independence. Rather than simply reading about privacy and self-hosting, Vincent began building and testing these systems for himself.
That meant learning Linux, setting up servers, running Bitcoin infrastructure, experimenting with privacy-focused mobile operating systems, managing private networks, improving authentication, and gradually replacing services that had previously been outsourced to large technology companies.
Along the way, the most important lesson was that digital sovereignty is not about perfection. It is about understanding tradeoffs, reducing unnecessary dependence, and gaining the confidence to operate more of your own technology.
WHY I WROTE THE BOOK
MAKING SOVEREIGNTY APPROACHABLE.
One of the biggest barriers to privacy, Bitcoin self-custody, and self-hosting is not necessarily the technology itself. It is the belief that the technology is too complicated for ordinary people to understand.
The Sovereignty Project was written to challenge that assumption. The goal is not to turn every reader into a cybersecurity professional or systems administrator. The goal is to provide a practical path for learning the tools, concepts, and habits that can give someone greater control over their digital and financial life.
The book reflects lessons learned through building, troubleshooting, making mistakes, rebuilding, and gradually understanding how the pieces fit together.

The Sovereignty Initiative exists to continue that mission beyond the pages of the book: helping people understand privacy, Bitcoin, self-custody, self-hosting, Linux, security, and personal infrastructure in a practical way.
